History

Given to the nine members of the Fellowship as parting gifts from Lothlórien, Elven Cloaks served their purpose well in the following months preceding the destruction of the Ring. These were extremely rare items from the elves of Lothlórien as no outsider had ever been gifted Elven Cloaks let alone ones made by Galadriel herself.

Description

Akin to ordinary camouflage, the Elven Cloaks made by the Galadrim allowed wearers to avoid the detection of enemies and strangers. Their appearance also shifted in response to their surroundings and they had the ability to insulate or cool the wearer. The Elven Cloaks ‘default’ appearance may have been grey as noted by Gandalf when addressing King Théoden in The Two Towers.

“‘Seldom has any lord of Rohan received three such guests. Weapons they have laid at your doors that are worth many a mortal man, even the mightiest. Grey is their raiment, for the Elves clad them, and thus they have passed through the shadow of great perils to your hall.’”
