After a short one-sided fight between Éowyn and the Witch-king, Merry hamstrings him with his Barrow-blade, and as such breaks the spell binding his flesh to his will. Éowyn seizes the opportunity and drives her sword through his head, killing him. Théoden, King of Rohan, is avenged.
