Rise to War Guide: Ori

Ori is one of the Dwarves who accompanied Thorin on his expedition to the Lonely Mountain, and also took part in the Battle of Five Armies. Less a warrior than a scribe, he's more interested in recording history than fighting it.

Ori is a highly Focus oriented commander with one of the highest Focus stat increases per level for tier 1 commanders. His base Might stat is just as good as Éowyn’s with a decent increase per level. However, as with all other Dwarf commanders, Ori is quite slow (but not the slowest).

Despite having decent Might and Focus stats, Ori is not a good PVP commander simply because he lacks the skills needed to deal adequate damage in a PVP setting. Ori is best used as a siege and pathing commander. However, there are certain PVE areas where Ori excels as will be detailed below.

Note: These are suggestions only. There may be better Ori builds out there waiting to be discovered!

Skill Tree

Ori has a skill tree that is almost identical to Dwalin’s except for his top tree which designates Ori as a Tip Master. Ori’s partiality towards Focus makes him an excellent healer at Respect 1 (R1) and a great support for damage-dealing units at Respect 5 (R5). See below for Ori’s skills and potential builds:

Skill Builds

Respect 1 Build: Healing and Durability
  1. Musician (2/15)
  2. Level-headed (1/7)
  3. Musician (15/15)
  4. Relief (7/7)
  5. Level-headed (7/7)
  6. Clerk (15/15)

Note: Allocate any additional points at your own discretion.

This is a great build for healing and durability. Musician works well with Dwarven units because they already have high defense and the speed buff counteracts their slowness. Level-headed and Relief sustain units by continuously debuffing and healing the units with the highest defense while Clerk increases Ori’s Focus stat even further. Buffing units Defence and Ori’s Focus stat provides a high layer of damage reduction in addition to the heals that Level-headed and Relief provide.

Respect 5 Build: Healing and Durability
  1. Musician (2/15)
  2. Level-headed (1/7)
  3. Musician (15/15)
  4. Relief (7/7)
  5. Warrior of Lonely Mountain (15/15)
  6. Clerk (15/15)
  7. Level-headed (7/7)

Note: Allocate any additional points at your own discretion.

This is an improved build for healing and durability due to the addition of Warrior of Lonely Mountain which reduces all Physical Damage received and reduces all burn damage by 50%. Ori’s Focus stat can easily reach upwards of 270 with Fine armour which layers an additional damage reduction buff of around 13.5% while also increasing the efficiency of Relief. This build can create a very durable army with the right units and is incredibly effective against enemies who deal burn damage.

Respect 3/Respect 5 Build: Damage and Durability
  1. Musician (2/15)
  2. Level-headed (1/7)
  3. Durin’s Blood (15/15) & All-In (7/7)
  4. Warrior of Lonely Mountain (15/15)
  5. Whirlwind (7/7)
  6. Musician (6/15) & Relief (3/7) or Longbeard (7/7)

Note: Allocate any additional points at your own discretion.

Ori has a decent Might stat that can reach upwards of 200 with Fine armour. His R3 skills are purely for damage and the combination of Durin’s Blood with All-In and Longbeard has the potential to deal massive damage to enemies. However, without heals, this Ori build is a glass cannon which has the potential to shoot itself in the foot.

Equipment

Ori’s Healing and Durability builds excel with high Focus stats so gear that boosts Focus is key. However, gear that boosts unit defense are also incredibly useful for Ori’s Musician skill. Boost Ori’s Might stat if you are building his Damage and Durability build. See below for suggested equipment builds.

Army Unit Composition

Ori buffs the defense and speed of units and targets high defense units for his heals. He works best when a high defense unit is in front with damage dealing units behind. However, he does not have any particular unit compositions that are best. See below for some suggestions:

BackFront
Sentinel
Sharpshooters
Bow Knights
Guardians
Guard of the Tower
Cataphract

Ori Tips

  • Ori with Bow Knights counters Dragons and Balrogs (especially with Warrior of Lonely Mountain skill maxed).
  • Ori’s is a good pather due to his Musician skill buffs.
  • Level Ori up with Sweeping Tips (which give 40k and 80k commander experience) and Ori’s Inquisitive skill.

Just FYI, loving the guides but take a look at this one. For some reason musician is listed twice with different skill points under each.

Same with level headed under your builds.
